Schools Are Open and Operating As Usual.
Today, CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) served notice that it plans to commence a strike involving full withdrawal of services on Friday, November 4, 2022. It is important to note that there are no Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) employees who are members of the CUPE bargaining group. As a result, these interruptions will not impact the day-to-day experience of WRDSB students at school, or their transportation. Students will continue to be supported in all aspects of their learning.
Schools boards and unions share a commitment to public education, creating positive learning environments, and maintaining positive labour relations. The collective bargaining process for public education is a two-tier bargaining process, involving both provincial level and local level negotiations. Local level refers to bargaining between the WRDSB and the local unions that we work with as an organization.
The WRDSB maintains a great relationship with our union partners and our professional associations. We will continue working with our partners and will keep families informed of any updates if needed.
