In June, we shared the updated cell phone and earbud/headphone policy for JHSS, which takes effect this September.  Here is a reminder of our new policy expectations.

As of September 2025, JHSS will implement the following changes.

Cell Phones and Headphones/Earbuds

• Cell phones are to be stored in a bag, backpack, or locker during class time.
• Earbuds/Headphones go away and out of sight when a student walks into the classroom. With teacher permission, earbuds/headphones can be connected to a Chromebook only, not connected to a cell phone.
• Cell phone and earbud/headphone use are not allowed in the hallways during class time or in the washrooms at any time.

Cell phones/devices are permitted to be used ONLY during the following times of the school day:

• Before the first bell in the morning
• Between classes
• Lunch time
• After school
• During spare (only in the Cafeteria or Front Foyer)

Students who struggle with following these expectations will bring their cell phone or earbud/headphones to the office, turn it off, label it with their name, and leave it in the office for the rest of the school day to support their regulation and attention. Devices cannot be picked up for lunch if they are stored in the office for the day unless the student has been signed out by a parent or guardian. Students who use digital wallets should have alternatives.

Please refrain from texting or calling your child during class time or with difficult news during the school day, as this information would be better shared in person.
