March 30th, 2026
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) will be administered for all Grade 10 students at JHSS on Wednesday, April 15th. This day is also our Assessment and Evaluation Day for all other students in Grades 9, 11, and 12.
Successful completion of this literacy requirement is a mandatory component of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
What is the OSSLT?
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy test (OSSLT) is a computer-based assessment divided into two parts:
- Part 1: Focuses on reading. Students read three passages and complete a series of multiple-choice and open-response questions.
- Part 2: Focuses on reading comprehension and writing. After reading two passages, students complete multiple-choice questions and write a multi-paragraph opinion piece on a provided topic.
Test Administration & Accessibility
The test is administered online. Students MUST use their board-provided Chromebooks. The platform includes several built-in accessibility and wellness tools:
- A help menu
- A text-to-speech function that reads the text on the screen out loud
- Zoom in and zoom out
- A line reader that helps students focus on one line of text at a time
- A high-contrast view
- Annotation tools
- A tool for rough notes
