Dear Jacob Hespeler Secondary School students and families,

This morning, staff learned of a message directed to the school that was threatening in nature. This threat was immediately reported to the Waterloo Regional Police Service and our school was placed in lockdown. As a result of the police investigation, the message was determined not to be a legitimate threat.

It is unacceptable to make threats, written or verbal, towards anyone. No matter the intention, we take any intimidation or threat of violence seriously and student and staff safety is our priority.

We want to thank our partners at WRPS for helping to keep our schools safe places to learn. We will always take whatever precaution is necessary to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Sometimes, incidents like this can cause students to become anxious or feel uncomfortable. If your child is feeling uneasy and would like to speak with someone, supports are available at school.

All WCSSAA home and away games for JHSS have been cancelled for today and staff are determining the possibility of rescheduling them

Sincerely,

B. Cathcart

Principal
